Hydrofluoric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride gas. It is a clear, colorless, smoky, corrosive liquid with a strong pungent smell. Hydrofluoric acid is a weak acid with strong corrosivity, which can strongly corrode metal, glass and silicon containing objects. Inhalation of steam or contact with skin may cause burns that are difficult to cure.

Application:

1. Hydrofluoric acid plays an important role in the purification of aluminum and uranium due to its ability to dissolve oxides
2. Hydrofluoric acid is also used to etch glass, and can engrave patterns, mark scales and words
3. The semiconductor industry uses it to remove oxides from the silicon surface
4. It can be used as a catalyst for alkylation of isobutane and n-butene in refineries
5. Hydrofluoric acid is also used in the "pickling" process to remove oxygen containing impurities on the stainless steel surface
6. Hydrofluoric acid is also used in the synthesis of various fluorinated organic compounds, such as Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene) and refrigerants such as Freon
